A facilitated discussion is an informal and flexible dispute resolution process led by an independent facilitator. The process may be useful to assist participants engage in respectful and focused conversations about issues that may be causing disagreement or disharmony and to explore solutions.
Verity Group provides nationally accredited mediation services. Mediation is a more formal and structured process used to assist parties in conflict achieve an ongoing workable relationship. The process is voluntary with an accredited Mediator managing the discussion between the individuals involved.
Mediation provides the participants with an opportunity to communicate what is concerning them and to listen to the concerns of the other party. The Mediator will encourage participants to work towards developing solutions in order to reach an agreement.
Guided Resolution is a similar process to mediation in which the parties in conflict identify the issues in dispute, develop options and endeavour to reach a mutually agreeable solutions. However, the Resolution Practitioner may have an advisory role on the content of the dispute and/or the resolution (but not a determinative role).
The Resolution Practitioner may make suggestions for the terms of the agreement, give advice on the merits of the dispute and may actively encourage the participants to reach an agreement. Nevertheless, as with mediation proceedings, the ultimate decision to reach agreement remains with the parties.
